What is dry cleaning?

This method thoroughly cleans and gently conditions clothing made from natural materials, while protecting these delicate fibers from fading, staining, damage, deformation, and shrinkage. (Natural materials include wool, cashmere, silk, silk, leather, fur, and leopard skin.)

On the other hand, some garments may have various accessories, sequins, buttons, and even metal hardware. However, these accessories are very fragile, and metal hardware can oxidize and rust after washing, seriously damaging the appearance of the garment and making it unfit for wear. Dry cleaning is a better option!

What is used for dry cleaning?

We use a non-aqueous cleaning solution (also known as dry cleaning oil). We use multi-solution dry cleaning agents and tetrachloroethylene as the main dry cleaning ingredients. To the naked eye, the dry cleaning solution looks no different from tap water, but it has a very significant cleaning effect when washing clothes.

Non-aqueous cleaning solutions have excellent penetrating power, penetrating deep into fabrics to dissolve grease and dirt. Unlike conventional washing, this method eliminates the need for additional detergents.

In a water-based washing environment, a wide variety of detergents are used. The most familiar are laundry powders and liquid laundry detergents. There are different laundry ingredients on the market, and their pH values are higher than 7.0, which is alkaline. Laundry products with high alkalinity can damage clothing fibers. In such a washing environment, clothing fibers will become hard, fade, and shrink.

What’s the difference between professional dry cleaning and washing at home?

When washing clothes, water is absorbed by the fabric fibers. This is especially true for silk, which has a water absorption capacity twice that of other fabrics. When silk absorbs water, the fibers become thicker and continuously stretch outward, eventually becoming severely deformed, often beyond repair.

After washing, we try to restore the silk to its original elasticity and dryness.

When silk is dried in the sun or heated, the absorbed water evaporates rapidly. The silk fibers stretch and shrink during the washing and drying process, becoming excessively fine after drying. This is why silk fibers shrink, becoming brittle and hard.

Silk fiber should feel smooth and soft, and it effectively absorbs and wicks away perspiration, keeping you dry and comfortable, while offering excellent warmth retention. However, improper washing can cause the fiber to feel extremely dry and hard, and noticeable shrinkage can be observed, diminishing all its benefits and functions. Therefore, proper washing methods are crucial, and this is a key reason why people choose dry cleaning.

Dry cleaning can effectively protect the natural fibers of clothes during the entire washing process, keeping clothes looking new for a long time.

After dry cleaning, you can see that the stains are gone and the clothes feel dry and soft to the touch. However, you may smell a slight gasoline odor when you sniff them. This may be a disadvantage of dry cleaning!

In fact, there are ways to solve these unpleasant odors. These odors are quite volatile. After washing clothes, we can hang them in a ventilated place to let the natural wind carry away the odor.

What is the dry cleaning process?

Step 1: Check the material of the clothes and choose the appropriate washing method. There are two methods and make sure the clothes are in good condition.

  • Method 1

Clothing label inspection method: There is usually a stack of labels on the collar, back or pocket of the clothes, which contain information such as the brand, size, material, and washing instructions of the clothes.

The material ratio is very important. Only by confirming it can you choose the appropriate washing method. Not all clothes are made of a single material.

A T-shirt can contain two or more materials, the body of the shirt is 100% cotton, and the collar is 95% cotton and 5% spandex.

  • Method 2

Touch method: Use when the clothing label is damaged or lost and the material of the clothing cannot be identified.

Our professional cleaners will use their experience to identify the material of the clothes and then decide whether the clothes can be dry cleaned.

Silk cotton and silk have very similar textures and are both very soft to the touch, but silk cotton is a synthetic fiber and cannot be dry cleaned like silk.

Finally, Hainan's professional laundry staff will carefully inspect the clothes and confirm whether the buttons and accessories on the clothes are missing or damaged.

Step 3: Pre-wash and remove stains from your clothes.

Everyday clothes tend to get dirty at collars, cuffs, and trousers. Pre-washing is also necessary for stains (stains include sweat, blood, saliva, urine, juice, red wine, coffee, tea, food sauce, cooking oil, rust, cosmetics, motor oil, mold, chewing gum, hair dye, paint, ballpoint pens, oil-based markers, pet excrement, etc.).

Our professional cleaners use a stain removal gun that utilizes hot and cold steam, hot and cold water, cold and hot air, and appropriate stain removers to completely or partially remove stains from clothing. This paves the way for dry cleaning, leaving clothing even cleaner after dry cleaning.

Stubborn stains are usually not completely removed during the pre-wash step and will be further treated in the subsequent cleaning process.

Professional cleaners will also use a lint extractor to remove hair and dust from clothes.

Step 5: Dry clean your clothes.

Our professional cleaners place the garments in a dry cleaning machine and allow them to fully soak in a non-aqueous solution. The dry cleaning machine rotates slowly, slowly removing grease and stains from the garments.

Next, the dry cleaning machine will rotate at high speed to remove water from the clothes and blow out hot air to dry the clothes, making them completely dry.

Our laundry technicians ensure that garments removed from dry cleaning machines are free of any residue from the non-aqueous dry cleaning solutions used.

The dry cleaning time for each piece of clothing will vary depending on the material of the clothing, ranging from 15 minutes to 90 minutes.

Step 7: Iron your clothes

Our professional laundry staff will iron and steam your dry-cleaned clothes, and they will be returned to you neatly and cleanly.

Step 2: Sort your clothes and add laundry labels.

Sort clothes by dark and light colors first, then by the different types of stains, especially those stained by pet excrement. Avoid transferring stains from dirty clothes to cleaner clothes before washing. Use laundry labels to separate different types of clothing.

Step 4: Provide protection for clothing parts and accessories.

Many garments have accessories, sequins, buttons, metal fittings, etc. Our professional cleaners will protect these garments and accessories with foil or protectors to prevent them from being scratched during the dry cleaning process .

Step 6: Enhance stain removal for clothing.

Our professional cleaners will inspect each dry-cleaned garment for any remaining stains and residues, and remove them using the same pre-wash stain removal methods.
